How We Assess Your Hip Pain
In your assessment, we use clinical tests and your history to determine what the source of pain is. Acute and chronic pain must be approached differently. We recommend referring to our hip physiotherapy services for more details. Here, you’ll learn more about how we assess and treat common hip injuries and various forms of hip pain.
In your assessment, we examine the hip, sacroiliac joint (SIJ), and lower back. Both the SIJ joint and lower back can also refer pain to the hip. We assess your range of motion and strength of individual muscles. We also look at functional tests, such as squats and lunges, to see if there are any mechanical and motor control issues.
Types of Joint-Related Issues
Generally, there are muscle-tendon and joint-related injuries. Joint related issues include impingement, osteoarthritis and labral tears. Muscle tendon issues include groin strain, tendinopathies, bursitis, muscle weakness and imbalances.
